Available Standardized Astrodynamic Algorithms

Last Revision: 15 September 2017

AFSPC maintains and provides technical support for AFSPC for the following Standardized Astrodynamic Algorithms. Beginning 1 June 2014, portions of the Standardized Astrodynamic Algorithm Library (SAAL) have become Non-Export Control.  The U.S. Only, Unclassified, Export Controlled software, due to its sensitive nature, access still remains tightly controlled. All requests for U.S. Only, Unclassified, Export Controlled software must be approved in writing by HQ AFSPC. Procedures are below for requesting both Export and Non-Export Control Software.

Alert:  AFSPC starting on 1 October 2017 will only be supporting Version 7 of the SAAL.  Distribution and technical support of previous versions of the software will no longer be provided starting 1 October 2016.  Users of previous versions should plan accordingly and build into their development schedule the transition to Version 7 of the software.  Also, SUN and SGI versions will not be ported to Version 7.

  1. For Pre-Release software: version family shown.  Actual version currently available may include minor version designators not listed here.
  2. * The V7x SP program is the follow-on product to the V5.4.2 SPEPH program.  Previous versions of the SPEPH program had SGP4 functionality embedded in it.  The new SP program no longer contains this functionality.  (Note: The SGP4 functionality is available in the SGP4 program - a separate software product available from HQ AFSPC).

What this means from a user perspective...

The older SPEPH program would accept either VCMs or TLEs as input for ephemeris generation calculations.  The new SP program will only accept VCMs as input for ephemeris generation calculations.  If you need to generate ephemeris data from TLE input data, you'll need to use the SGP4 program.
  3. Important:  AFSPC is no longer supporting or distributing V5.4 (legacy and unsupported software) Please contact AFSPC at afspc.astrostandards@us.af.mil for assistance if you have legitimate reasons for requesting this version.
  4. ** JAFSPCAS-SGP4 is the java implementation of the SGP4 product.  It also contains the following propagators: SGP, Two-Body, and GPJ2.  An example Graphical User Interface is included.
  5. ANPRO- Since SGP4 is now released as a non-export DLL/SO, there is no requirement to continue to support this product.
  6. *** Space Brawler can be requested at the Unclassified, Secret and Top Secret levels from Space and Missile Center (see below for POCs). The Maneuver Detection Rendezvous (MDR) module used with Space Brawler is available for download on SARP.  All requests for the MDR module used with Space Brawler are made on NIPRNet SARP at http://halfway.peterson.af.mil/sarp.  The unclassified version of MDR can be downloaded off SARP. Instructions only on how to get the SECRET/Top SECRET version of MDR can be downloaded off SARP.  The SECERT version of MDR works with both the SECRET and Top SECRET versions of Space Brawler.

For more information, see the most recent version of the List of Available SAAL DLLs.
